The Student Services Department provides students, either individually or in groups, with the opportunity to acquire skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to:

  • Know and appreciate themselves as individuals with unique interests and attitudes;
  • Relate effectively with others, by developing positive interpersonal skills;
  • Develop an appropriate educational plan that matches their individual interests and abilities;
  • Explore career alternatives taking into account personal growth, and increased decision-making skills, when considering career plans.

Counsellors are available to assist students in locating and interpreting information that they may require when making decisions about careers, course selections, and other personal concerns. Up-to-date information about community resources is kept on file in the Guidance area. Internet access is available with built-in links to Post-Secondary Institutions and Apprenticeships, Career Planning, Scholarships and Financing. Counsellors may also refer students to appropriate community agencies. Information is provided on many local community and social service agencies. Pamphlets, brochures, books and other resources on social issues are available for personal use or school projects. Personal and vocational counselling is available for students.

The Department hosts information sessions with post secondary institutions as well as local community and social service agencies.
