"AP courses provide a very interactive experience between teachers and students. The actual AP exam really prepares you for university. It is very different than writing a high school exam."

"The learning environment is more serious. More material is covered, therefore, it provides a real academic challenge."

"AP prepares students for the workload in university. The reading each week in AP is similar to the quantity in university and AP prepares students for independent learning. Finally, AP students learn test-taking and essay writing strategies which give them an advantage over other first year students."

"Earl of March's AP program was an excellent experience. The exams I wrote more than prepared me for university and I enjoyed the opportunity to study my fields of interest more closely. Not only did my study skills improve, but I gained a deep understanding of my subjects which has formed the basis of my post-secondary studies. The kind of university preparation I received greatly exceeded that of the regular classroom and I highly recommend it as a way to supplement high school learning. Although my university is one of the few that still doesn't accept AP courses, I feel I have gained something much more valuable than a credit."

"In addition to the obvious benefits of university credits, numerous skills are learned and these are immensely useful in university. Students learn to organize their thoughts clearly and concisely and the benefits of these skills in writing any university exam are immeasurable."

"The AP courses that I was lucky enough to take stand out as highlights of my time in high school not only from an educational standpoint but from one that was surprisingly social as well. To say the least, the Advanced Placement classes were a treat to be a part of and I would encourage students to consider them. AP let me attend a class that I enjoyed with others that were as eager and enthusiastic about the material as I was. When placed in a classroom with 15 or 20 others all looking forward to what is to come, chemistry is developed which lasts throughout the year. It was a pleasure to be able to discuss the subject passionately as every person had an opinion and point of view. Every day brought with it a new possibility of learning something fascinating, whether a whole new topic or the smallest of curiosities otherwise usually overlooked. I had fun. Maybe that's something that many overlook when it comes to education and schooling, but the AP classes were somehow made enjoyable on top of the wealth of knowledge they provided. For me, those classes and those memories will always be a treasure."

"The AP courses allowed me to work in an environment of like-minded students with a dedicated teacher, which not only increased my comfort level, but encouraged me to improve my performance and goals. The more difficult course content and learning pace was excellent training for the more rigorous and independent nature of university courses. As a result of AP, in some university semesters, I was able to take only four courses and concentrate on them, instead of the normal five. The academic skills such as study methods, test-taking, critical thinking, etc., that I gained from my AP courses were invaluable. However, I consider the greatest benefits the maturity and confidence I gained with the more advanced material. You find yourself working in a higher grade of classroom with like-minded peers, allowing you to feel comfortable in learning and in pushing yourself further academically. Even if you choose not to take the exams, I would recommend the AP courses for any student seriously considering post-secondary education. I have no doubt that the fact I succeeded in my AP courses gave me an edge in university. In addition, in applying for co-operative education positions and graduate studies, I feel that having gained the rank of Advanced Placement Scholar is considered a definite advantage."
