Earl of March provides a variety of extracurricular activities. These provide an excellent opportunity for students to get involved in the school on a broader basis. Committing to a team or group of any sort, outside the regular school day, gives the opportunity to meet new people and to make new friends. Extracurricular activities allow all students to develop the necessary life skills of commitment and teamwork, and to improve abilities outside an academic environment.
Earl has many top-notch sports teams, including Girls' Field Hockey, Girls' Basketball, Girls' Volleyball, the Tennis Team, Boys' Rugby, Boys' Basketball, the Track Team, and more! Tryouts are always announced well before the season starts for optimal preparation and practice time. The teams compete at home and away with those from other schools in the Ottawa area; friendly competition is all part of the fun. Check out scores and standings at FatDog.ca
There is a band trip every year to provide students with additional performance opportunities. Last year's band trip was to Banff; the year before it was to Halifax; this year they are going to Boston.
Drama students have the chance to perform in plays throughout the year and compete in the Sears Drama Festival. Earl's drama department also includes the Improv Team, which is a group of students who perform improvisational acts. The Improv team members are sometimes asked to perform within the school, as well as competing regionally and nationally.
Dance students perform at school events and win top honours at competitions. Earl of March dancers have won 75 gold medals in provincial championships, as well as 300 gold medals in regional competitions. Our students have been offered full scholarships to the National Ballet School, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, "Steps" (pre-professional dance program on Broadway), and the American Theatre Dance Workshop, New York.
Every year, a large group of students works with teachers (from all subject areas) and parent volunteers to produce a musical. The school has successfully staged 29 of these shows in our well-equipped school auditorium.
Audiences enjoy the entertainment that is provided by Earl students at these events.
